The Daily Nole — Nov. 27, 2021: FSU Soccer Tops Michigan in OT to Reach College Cup

They’re back!

For the 12th time in program history and third time in four years, Florida State soccer is headed to the College Cup. The top-seeded Seminoles punched their ticket on Friday with a 1-0 overtime victory over Michigan in the Elite Eight.

The golden goal came with less than a minute to play in the overtime period. Gabby Carle kicked one toward the net. Jaelin Howell was able to draw Michigan goalkeeper Hillary Beall toward her, leaving the net open for Beata Olsson to score the game-winner. Carle and Howell both were rewarded with assists.

FSU held the slight edge in shots, 10-8. Goalie Cristina Roque was huge for the Seminoles, recording four saves.

With the win, FSU will make its way to Santa Clara, Calif., needed two wins to claim a third national championship. The Seminoles will face Rutgers on Friday night.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU’s soccer victory, FSU volleyball was defeated by Georgia Tech on Friday, 3-0.

On the Agenda

FSU football will visit rival Florida on Saturday. The contest begins at 12 p.m. ET and airs on ESPN. FSU women’s hoops takes on Purdue in the St. Pete Showcase. That one begins at 11 a.m. ET and streams on FloSports.

News and Notes

Katherine Cook, Jacqui Putrino and Charlotte “Lottie” Woad have signed letters of intent to play for FSU women’s golf.
