The Daily Nole — Nov. 15, 2021: FSU Hoops Falls at Florida, 71-55

Lead Story

Florida State basketball’s 7-game winning streak over rival Florida came to an abrupt end on Sunday. Florida made a big second-half run to pull away from the Seminoles in Gainesville, 71-55.

FSU bounced back from a slow start to take a 30-28 lead into the locker room. The Seminoles clung to a 44-43 lead midway through the second half, but Florida answered with a 13-0 run and never looked back.

Both teams shot just 39% from the field, but the Gators held an 11-rebound advantage and made seven more free throws. Colin Castleton and Anthony Duruji each scored 15 points to lead Florida. FSU’s Malik Osborne led all scorers with 18 points to go with a team-high six rebounds. Freshman Matthew Cleveland added 11 points in the loss.

The win for Florida is the first over FSU since 2013. The Seminoles will try to bounce back on Wednesday when they host Tulane.

Between the Lines

Aside from the loss to Florida, two other FSU teams won on Sunday. FSU volleyball topped Syracuse, 3-1. FSU women’s hoops defeated Milwaukee, 80-42.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Monday.

News and Notes

The ACC will name players of the week for various sports on Monday.

The ACC will announce game times and networks for the Nov. 27 slate of football games.

FSU football received a commitment from Lamar transfer Bless Harris. Harris had previously committed to UCF.

FSU softball scrimmaged rival Florid on Sunday.
