Florida State athletics

It’s the weekend, Florida State fans.

Before you execute your big plans, check out our daily rundown.

Lead Story

It hasn’t been a season to remember for Florida State football, but a pair of players made midseason watch lists earlier this week.

Defensive end Jermaine Johnson was named to the Bednarik Award watch list while punter Alex Mastromanno landed on the Ray Guy Award watch list. No FSU player has ever won either of the awards.

Johnson enters Week 6 leading the ACC and ranking third nationally with 5.5 sacks. Johnson ranks second in the ACC and 11th nationally with 7.5 tackles for loss.

Mastromanno has had an excellent season punting for the Seminoles. The Australian native averages nearly 44 yards per punt.

The two will be in action on Saturday as Florida State visits North Carolina. The contest begins at 3:30 p.m. ET and airs on ESPN.

Between the Lines

FSU swimming and diving kicked off its season on Friday with the FIU TYR Classic. Both the FSU men and women lead after one day.

On the Agenda

In addition to Saturday’s football game at North Carolina, FSU swimming and diving will wrap up the FIU TYR Classic on Saturday.

News and Notes

FSU football remains a 17.5-point underdog for Saturday’s contest in Chapel Hill.
