The Daily Nole — Oct. 11, 2021: FSU Soccer Handles Miami, Stays Perfect

Lead Story

Florida State soccer continues to roll along. On Sunday, the top-ranked Seminoles stayed perfect with a convincing 4-1 home win over rival Miami.

FSU finished with 32 shots to just two for Miami as four different players scored in the victory. All five goals from the match came in the second half. Yujie Zhao, Gabby Carle, Ran Iwai and Gianna Mitchell all scored for FSU.

Jody Brown, Zhao, Amelia Horton and Leilanni Nesbeth all tallied assists in the win. Trailing 3-0, Gudrun Haralz broke up the shutout in the 75th minute for the Hurricanes. Although FSU scored four times, Miami goalkeeper Melissa Dagenais recorded 14 saves.

Sunday’s contest will serve as the final home match until the regular season finale for FSU, which improved to 14-0 and 6-0 in ACC play. The Seminoles will begin a 3-game road stretch on Friday at Virginia Tech.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU’s soccer victory, FSU volleyball beat Duke on Sunday, 3-1.

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Monday.

Game times and networks will be set for the Oct. 23 slate of ACC football games on Monday.
