The Daily Nole — March 17, 2021: FSU Baseball Blasts Florida, 10-2

Lead Story

For the first time since opening weekend, Florida State baseball is over .500. After a lengthy rain delay at Dick Howser Stadium on Tuesday night, the Seminoles blasted rival Florida, 10-2.

FSU raced to a 7-0 lead through two innings and never looked back. Robby Martin had a big night at the plate for the Seminoles, going 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs and five RBIs. Matheu Nelson also homered for FSU in the victory.

Four FSU hurlers combined to strike out 16 batters. Starter Carson Montgomery fanned nine in 4.2 innings for the Seminoles. The Gators managed just four hits with both runs coming in the fifth.

With the victory, FSU improves to 7-6 on the season. The Seminoles will hit the road to take on Miami for three games this weekend, beginning on Friday.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU’s baseball victory, FSU men’s golf rallied to win the Valspar Collegiate on Tuesday.

On the Agenda

FSU women’s swimming and diving will begin the NCAA Championships on Wednesday.

FSU cross country’s Rebecca Clark, Maudie Skyring and Adrian Wildschutt were named USTFCCCA All-Americans.

FSU beach volleyball is co-No. 1 with USC in the AVCA Poll.

Florida State’s Giulia Pairone has been named the ACC Women’s Tennis Co-Player of the Week

FSU volleyball outside hitter Morgan Chacon was named ACC Player of the Week.
