Lead Story

In its toughest test of the young season, No. 8 Florida State women’s tennis fought valiantly on Sunday, but ultimately fell at seventh-ranked Georgia, 4-3.

The doubles point ultimately turned out to be the difference for the Bulldogs. Georgia won the doubles point and the first two singles matches to take a 3-0 lead, but FSU stormed back.

After FSU’s Emmanuelle Salas rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory over Georgia’s Morgan Coppoc to get the Seminoles on the board, Victoria Allen and Andrea Garcia evened things with straight-set victories. The contest was ultimately decided on Court 1 where Katarina Jokic outlasted FSU’s Giulia Parione, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2.

With the loss, FSU falls to 3-1 on the season. The Seminoles return home to take on North Florida on Friday.

In addition to FSU women’s tennis, FSU women’s hoops lost to Miami on Sunday, 68-52.
