The Daily Nole — Dec. 22, 2020: FSU Hoops Wraps Up Non-Conference With Win Over Gardner-Webb

It wasn’t pretty and it didn’t come easy, but Florida State basketball closed the non-conference schedule on a high note on Monday night.

No. 21 FSU defeated Gardner-Webb in a contest closer than anticipated, 72-59. The Seminoles trailed for most of the first half and led by just one with less than seven minutes to play in the the game. They ultimately closed on an 18-6 run.

FSU held Gardner-Webb to just 31% shooting and a 53-30 rebounding advantage, but the Seminoles shot just 34% themselves and 6-for-33 from deep. Anthony Polite led FSU with a career-high 15 points and nine rebounds. Balsa Koprivica added 14 points and eight boards in the win. Lance Terry paced the Bulldogs with a game-high 23 points.

Fresh off a loss to UCF, FSU was able to improve to 5-1 on Monday night. The Seminoles will have more than a week off before visiting Clemson on Dec. 29.

Between the Lines

FSU’s basketball victory was the lone scheduled athletic event for Monday.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Tuesday.

FSU football defensive end Janarius Robinson announced he will declare for the 2021 NFL Draft.

FSU basketball fell six spots to No. 21 in both the AP and Amway Coaches Poll.

Florida State women’s hoops will play at Virginia Tech on Dec. 31.
