It was an historic night for Florida State basketball on Wednesday. Two Seminoles were selected with lottery picks in the 2020 NBA Draft — the first time in program history.
Forward Patrick Williams was selected fourth overall by the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night, tying legend Dave Cowens for the highest FSU player ever taken. Cowens went No. 4 overall to the Boston Celtics in the 1970 NBA Draft. Williams averaged 9.2 points and four rebounds in his only season at FSU.
Seven picks later, slasher Devin Vassell was selected 11th overall by the San Antonio Spurs. A 2-year player at FSU, Vassell was the Seminoles’ leading scorer last season, averaging nearly 13 points and better than five rebounds per game. Vassell shot 49% from the field and 42% from beyond the 3-point arc.
Wednesday night marked the first time that two FSU players were selected in the first round since 1993. That year, Doug Edwards and Sam Cassell were each selected in the first 24 picks.

Florida State swimming and diving began the Georgia Invite on Wednesday.

News and Notes
FSU football cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. has been added to the Bednarik Award watch list. That annually goes to the nation’s top defensive player.
FSU soccer midfielder Jaelin Howell has been added to the U.S. Women’s National Team.
Florida State quarterback Chubba Purdy is out for the remainder of the season.
FSU cornerback Meiko Dotson is out for the remainder of the season, but is expected back next year.
FSU basketball’s training room will be renamed in memory of former center Michael Ojo.
