It’s Sunday, Florida State fans. As your weekend comes to a close and the Christmas holiday approaches, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

It was a newcomer who shined brightest for Florida State basketball in Saturday’s 81-59 Orange Bowl Classic victory over Saint Louis in Sunrise.

Senior guard David Nichols was named the MVP of the contest. The Albany transfer finished with a game-high 19 points on 7-for-11 shooting and 4-from-7 from beyond the 3-point arc.

For the season, Nichols is averaging 7.6 points per game and is shooting better than 42 percent from deep. After failing to do so in his first eight games at Florida State, Nichols has now scored in double-figures in three of his last four games, including a season-high 19 on Saturday.
