Lead Story

Newcomers have been a big reason for Florida State women’s basketball’s early-season success and part of that includes protecting the rim.

Valencia Myers, a 6-foot-3 freshman forward out of Ohio, currently leads the ACC in blocked shots at 2.2 per game. That is percentage points ahead of Louisville’s Kylee Shook.

Myers is currently the only FSU player to lead the ACC in any major category, although Maryland transfer Kiah Gillespie is the conference’s third leading scorer. Myers also ranks ninth in the ACC in rebounding at 8.8 per game. She’s averaging 10.3 points per game — good for fourth on the team.
