It’s Tuesday, Florida State fans. As your work week chugs along, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State sophomore quarterback James Blackman made his first start last season against NC State. That could again be the case on Saturday.

According to multiple reports, head coach Willie Taggart said Monday that quarterback Deondre Francois is “beat up” and is listed as day-to-day. Francois made his way back to the locker room in the second half of Saturday’s 59-10 loss to Clemson.

Blackman went 7-5 as the starter last season for the Seminoles in place of an injured Francois, becoming the first FSU true freshman to start at quarterback in 32 years. Blackman got his most extended action of the season against Clemson and performed fairly well, albeit against Clemson reserves. Blackman went 3-for-4 for 88 yards and threw the game’s only touchdown — a 73-yard strike to Keyshawn Helton.

Only Louisville quarterbacks have been sacked more this season than Francois. The redshirt junior ranks second in the ACC in passing yards behind only NC State’s Ryan Finley, but is coming off a 17-for-36 day against the Tigers with 180 yards and an interception.

Between the Lines

FSU women’s golf finished second at the Jim West Challenge in Texas on Monday.
