The Daily Nole — Oct. 22, 2018: FSU Soccer Blanks Virginia, 2-0

Lead Story

Florida State soccer scored a huge road victory on Sunday, winning in Charlottesville for the first time ever.

The 14th-ranked Seminoles topped No. 6 Virginia on Sunday, 2-0. Both goals came in the first half off the feet of Deyna Castellanos and Anna Patten. Patten’s goal came on assists from Megan Connolly and Natalia Kuikka.

For the day, the Cavaliers outshot FSU 13-10, but the defense was fierce for the Seminoles. Goalkeeper Brooke Bollinger recorded four saves in the victory.

With the win, FSU improved to 12-3-2 and 5-3-1 in ACC play. The Seminoles wrap up the regular season on Thursday against Miami.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU soccer, FSU volleyball scored a 4-set victory over Clemson on Sunday. FSU men’s and women’s tennis continued the ITA Regional Championships on Sunday. FSU men’s golf finished 11th at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Championship while the women finished fifth at the Stanford Intercollegiate.

Both FSU tennis teams resume the ITA Regional Championships on Monday.

News and Notes

FSU quarterback Deondre Francois was named ACC Offensive Back of the Week and defensive end Brian Burns took home ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week honors.

FSU and NC State will kick off at 3:30 p.m. EST on Nov. 3. The contest will air on ESPN2 or ABC.

FSU basketball will begin the 2018-19 season ranked No. 17 in the AP Poll.
