The Daily Nole — Oct. 20, 2018: FSU Volleyball Stays Hot, Tops Georgia Tech

Lead Story

Florida State volleyball continued to stay hot on Friday night, winning a fifth straight match with a 4-set victory over Georgia Tech.

The Seminoles topped the Yellow Jackets, 25-21, 23-25, 25-20, 25-23 in Tallahassee. FSU’s Payton Caffrey and Georgia Tech’s Mariana Brambilla each finished with 19 kills in the match. Brambilla added 21 digs to lead the Yellow Jackets while FSU’s Kelsey Wicinski finished with 23 to lead all players in that category.

The contest puts FSU at the midway point of ACC play. The Seminoles improved to 8-1 in conference and will host Clemson on Sunday.

Between the Lines

In addition to volleyball, both FSU tennis teams took part in the ITA Regional Championships on Friday. FSU women’s tennis finished the first round in sixth place at the Stanford Intercollegiate. The men’s team played in the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Championships.

On the Agenda

Both FSU tennis teams and both FSU golf teams will continue their respective events on Saturday. FSU swimming and diving will be at Minnesota. FSU cross country takes part in the Georgia College Bobcat Invitational. FSU football hosts Wake Forest at 3:30 p.m. EST on ESPN2.

News and Notes

FSU softball and FSU baseball each won a pair of exhibition games on Friday.

FSU is a 9.5-point favorite over Wake Forest.

FSU defeated Wake Forest on Saturday, 38-17.
