Rhett Aplin’s transition has gone from junior college to Florida State and from the outfield to first base. Now, it’s gone to professional baseball.

The senior Aplin was selected by Kansas City on Wednesday in the 28th round of the 2018 Major League Draft. Aplin is selected No. 842 overall and is the sixth player from Florida State to be taken.

After leading the team in hitting as a junior, Aplin ranked third on the team as a senior with a .301 batting average to go along with two home runs and 35 RBIs, which included the game-winning single in the ACC Tournament semifinal win over Clemson.

In addition to those stellar numbers, Aplin led the Seminoles with 18 doubles and committed just two errors in the field, despite transitioning to a new position. Aplin appeared in 60 of FSU’s 62 games — all coming in starts.

Aplin is the second player to be taken by the Royals, joining Jackson Lueck, who was selected 600 spots earlier.
