FSU’s Tyler Holton Gets Drafted by Arizona

Florida State starting pitcher Tyler Holton worked just four innings in 2018, but the lefty has been drafted for a second straight year.

Holton was selected by the with the 279th overall pick of the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Holton is a ninth-round selection and the fifth Seminole taken.

After an All-American season in 2017, Holton was selected by the Miami Marlins in the 35th round as a draft-eligible sophomore, but elected to return to school. Holton was the Opening Day starter for FSU this season, but left the opener against Xavier after four innings with an apparent arm injury.

Holton has since had Tommy John Surgery and may not be ready to play baseball until 2020. Holton will have the option to return to FSU in 2019.
