The Daily Nole — May 27, 2018: FSU to Face Louisville for ACC Baseball Title

It’s Sunday, Florida State fans. As your Memorial Day weekend winds down, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

For a fourth straight year, Florida State will be playing for the ACC Baseball Championship. FSU clinched that spot with a thrilling 5-4 victory over No. 2 seed Clemson on Saturday night in Durham.

The sixth-seeded Seminoles will face No. 5 seed Louisville. The Cardinals advanced to the title game with a 5-2 win over 12th-seeded Pittsburgh in the first semifinal on Saturday.

FSU took two of three from Louisville during the regular season in Tallahassee and has won seven of the last nine meetings, including a 6-2 win in last season’s ACC Tournament. FSU will be going for its eighth ACC Tournament title while Louisville aims for its first.

The contest begins at noon EST and airs on ESPN.

Between the Lines

Aside from the ACC Baseball semifinal, FSU track and field wrapped up the NCAA East Preliminaries on Saturday. FSU softball defeated LSU in the final two games of the Tallahassee Super Regional by an 8-5 score in 11 innings and by a 3-1 score in the nightcap to advance to the Women’s College World Series.

On the Agenda

The ACC Championship is the only scheduled FSU athletic event for Sunday.

FSU baseball defeated Louisville on Sunday in 10 inning to win a second straight ACC crown.

18 total FSU track and field athletes advanced to the NCAA Championships.

FSU was selected as one of the 16 NCAA Regional hosts.
