FSU Baseball Remains in Position to Host Regional

A win instead of a heartbreaking loss at Clemson on Monday night could have really helped Florida State’s chances of getting a top-8 national seed and having the road to Omaha go through Tallahassee.

Unfortunately for Florida State, Clemson’s Jordan Greene got the last laugh with a walk-off solo home run to left field in the bottom of the ninth. A top-8 national seed however, is not out of the question.

As of right now, experts see the Seminoles as competitors for such. They have seven games remaining in the regular season, including three with highly-ranked NC State before the ACC Tournament.

As it stands, both D1Baseball.com and Baseball America have FSU as the No. 10 national seed. Both set of projections were from Wednesday — prior to FSU’s 10-4 win over Jacksonville.

The experts at D1Baseball.com pit Florida State against the region’s No. 4 seed Sam Houston State in a rematch of last season’s Tallahassee Super Regional, which FSU swept. The No. 2 in those projections is South Florida and the No. 3 is Mississippi State.

FSU topped South Florida in its first midweek game of the season, 5-2, back on Feb. 20. Mississippi State eliminated Florida State in the 2007 Tallahassee Regional.

The lone difference in the Baseball America projections was the No. 4 seed in the region, which is Saint Louis. The Seminoles and Billikens haven’t met on the baseball diamond since 1981.

Up next for Florida State is a 4-game set with Mount St. Mary’s, which unsurprisingly does not appear in either projection. The Seminoles then close the season with three games against NC State, which is the No. 13 national seed in both projected brackets.
