The Daily Nole — May 7, 2018: FSU Softball Claims Top Seed in ACC Tournament

Lead Story

The top spot in the ACC Tournament had long been clinched by Florida State softball, but the brackets were unveiled on Sunday, making it official.

The Seminoles will kick off the ACC Tournament on Thursday at 11 a.m. EST as they take on the winner of eighth-seeded Louisville and No. 9 seed Syracuse. FSU closed the regular season on Sunday with a 3-0 win at NC State.

Florida State finished the regular season with a record of 44-10 and 21-3 in ACC play. The Seminoles have won the ACC Softball Tournament in each of the last four years.

Between the Lines

In addition to the 3-0 FSU softball victory, FSU beach volleyball fell to UCLA in the national championship dual on Sunday, 3-1. FSU baseball was defeated by Clemson, 12-7.

On the Agenda

FSU women’s golf opens the NCAA Tallahassee Regional on Monday. FSU baseball wraps up a 3-game series against Clemson at 7 p.m. EST on ESPNU.

News and Notes

FSU baseball was defeated by Clemson on Monday night on a walk-off home run in the ninth inning, 5-4.

FSU remained No. 16 in this week’s Baseball America Poll. The Seminoles moved up two spots to No. 14 in the D1Baseball.com Poll. FSU moved up one spot to No. 25 in the Collegiate Baseball Poll. FSU rose from 15th to 14th in the NCBWA Poll.

Before the season finale on May 19 against NC State, Florida State baseball will hold a pregame celebration for head coach Mike Martin becoming the winningest coach in college baseball history.

FSU’s Amanda Doherty and Morgane Metraux were named to the All-ACC Women’s Golf Team.

FSU softball’s Jessie Warren has been named ACC Player of the Week.
