The Daily Nole — May 6, 2018: FSU Beach Volleyball Set to Play for National Title

Lead Story

For Florida State beach volleyball to claim its first national championship, lightning will need to strike twice.

The fourth-seeded Seminoles clinched a spot in Sunday’s title dual with a thrilling 3-2 win over Hawaii on Saturday afternoon. FSU will take on either the third-seed Sunbows or top-seeded UCLA for the national championship at 2 p.m. EST on ESPN.

The Sunbows and Bruins will play at 11:30 a.m. EST on ESPN2 for the right to take on the Seminoles. FSU opened the tournament on Friday with wins over 3-time defending national champion USC and UCLA. Florida State has won 21 straight duals overall.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU beach volleyball, FSU softball topped NC State on Saturday, 5-0, behind a no-hitter from Kylee Hanson. FSU baseball topped Clemson in 13 innings to make head coach Mike Martin the winngest coach in college baseball history.

On the Agenda

In addition to the national championship match, FSU softball wraps up a 3-game series with NC State at noon EST on ACC Network Extra. FSU baseball visits Clemson at 4 p.m. EST on the same network.

News and Notes

FSU baseball fell to Clemson on Sunday in the middle game of a 3-game series, 12-7.

FSU beach volleyball lost to UCLA in the national championship dual on Sunday, 3-1.

FSU softball will be the top seed in the ACC Tournament and will play either Syracuse or Louisville on Thursday.
