The Daily Nole — April 21, 2018: FSU Men’s Golf Gets Underway at ACC Tourney

Lead Story

After one day of the ACC Tournament in New London, North Carolina, Florida State’s men’s golf team is in the hunt.

After the first round on Friday, the Seminoles currently sit in fifth place at -6 as a team. That’s six strokes behind leader Georgia Tech, who holds a 1-stroke lead on Notre Dame. Clemson and Wake Forest are in third and fourth place at -9 and -7, respectively.

Pacing FSU on Friday was junior Bennett Baker, who is tied for ninth at -4 overall. Virginia’s Danny Walker and Georgia Tech’s Luke Schniederjans are tied for the overall lead at -7.

The Seminoles will resume the ACC Tournament with the second round on Saturday.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU golf, FSU track and field wrapped up the Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday. FSU men’s tennis fell to North Carolina, 4-1, while the women got the better of Notre Dame, 6-1. FSU beach volleyball opened the CCSA Tournament with 5-0 wins over UNC-Wilmington and Florida Atlantic. FSU baseball needed 11 innings to top Boston College, 13-12.

On the Agenda

In addition to men’s golf, the FSU women will open the ACC Tournament on Saturday. FSU beach volleyball continues the CCSA Tournament with matches against LSU and Georgia State. FSU softball opens a 3-game set with Louisville at 1 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra. FSU baseball plays Boston College at Fenway Park at 3 p.m. EST on ESPNU.

Pitcher C.J. Van Eyk will start for FSU baseball at Boston College on Saturday.

FSU beach volleyball advanced to the CCSA Tournament semifinals with wins over LSU and Georgia State on Saturday.
