Top-seeded Florida State felt little resistance on the first day of the CCSA Beach Volleyball Tournament on Friday. FSU cruised to easy victories over UNC-Wilmington and Florida Atlantic in Cartersville, Georgia.

The Seminoles opened the day with a 5-0 win over No. 9 seed UNC-Wilmington, winning each duel in straight sets. The closest the Seahawks came to winning a set came in the first set on Court 1 and the second set on Court 3.

On the first court, the FSU combination of Tory Paranagua and Vanessa Freire defeated UNC-Wilmington’s Maddy Kline and Nicole Lott, 21-18, 21-13. On Court 3, Sara Putt and Macy Jerger defeated Halle Hunt and Katie McCullough, 21-13, 21-18. The Seahawks didn’t score more than 13 points in any other set.

FSU also topped eighth-seeded Florida Atlantic by a 5-0 score, but got a bit more of a challenge from the Owls. The FSU combination of Francesca Goncalves and Eva Torruella actually dropped the first set, but rallied to win the duel over FAU’s Brittany Pellitteri and Julia Lewkowicz, 17-21, 21-18, 15-11.

FSU will wrap up pool play on Saturday with matches against fourth-seeded LSU and No. 5 seed Georgia State. The Seminoles need just one win to advance to the CCSA semifinals on Sunday.
