The Daily Nole — April 20, 2018: FSU’s Sherrill a Freshman of the Year Finalist

Lead Story

An outstanding season for Florida State softball’s Sydney Sherrill has not gone unnoticed.

On Thursday, the utility player was named among 25 candidates for the 2018 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I Freshman of the Year. Sherrill leads the Seminoles this season with a .400 batting average and 41 RBIs. Only all-time ACC leader Jessie Warren has hit more home runs.

Earlier this season, Sherrill set the FSU single-season record for doubles. She currently has 22 of those on the season. Sherrill and the Seminoles will open a 3-game series against Louisville on Saturday.

Between the Lines

FSU track and field took part in the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday.

On the Agenda

FSU track and field will resume the Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday. FSU beach volleyball begins the CCSA Tournament while FSU men’s golf will start the ACC Tournament. FSU women’s tennis will be at Notre Dame while the men host North Carolina at 5:30 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra. FSU baseball will be at Boston College at 6 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

10 FSU swimming and diving athletes were named to the All-ACC Academic team.

FSU baseball needed 11 innings, but topped Boston College on Friday night, 13-12.

FSU beach volleyball collected 5-0 wins over UNC-Wilmington and Florida Atlantic on Friday at the CCSA Tournament.
