The Daily Nole — March 23, 2018: Time Set for FSU-Michigan in Elite Eight

It’s Friday, Florida State fans. As you get ready for the weekend, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

It will be another late tip-off for Florida State on Saturday night as it aims for a first trip to the Final Four since 1972.

The ninth-seeded Seminoles and third-seeded Michigan will meet in the West Region final — more commonly referred to as the Elite Eight — on Saturday night. The contest in Los Angeles is scheduled for 8:49 p.m. EST and will air on TBS.

FSU reached the Elite Eight for the first time since 1993 with a 75-60 win over fourth-seeded Gonzaga on Thursday night. Michigan is in the Elite Eight after topping No. 7 seed Texas A&M on Thursday, 99-72.

Michigan holds a 2-1 edge all-time against Florida State. The Wolverines rallied to beat FSU in the San Juan Tip-Off in 2013, 82-80. The previous two meetings between the schools were split in the NIT.

Between the Lines

FSU basketball topped Gonzaga in the NCAA Tournament‘s Sweet 16 on Thursday, 75-60. FSU men’s swimming and diving continued the NCAA Championships.

On the Agenda

FSU men’s swimming and diving will continue the NCAA Championships in Minneapolis on Friday. FSU women’s tennis visits Wake Forest while the men host N.C. State at 5:30 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra. The women also take on North Carolina A&T.

FSU women’s golf begins the Clemson Invitational. FSU track and field begins the FSU Relays. FSU baseball opens at 3-game series at North Carolina while FSU softball opens a 3-game series against Syracuse. Both contests on the diamond begin at 6 p.m. EST and air on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

Saturday’s FSU baseball game at North Carolina was moved up one day, meaning the Seminoles and Tar Heels will play a doubleheader on Friday.

North Carolina topped Florida State in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday, 16-8.

FSU scored three runs in the 10th inning to top North Carolina in the second game of a doubleheader on Friday night, 6-3.

The FSU 200 relay medley team of junior William Pisani, seniors Chad Mylin, Joe Plechy and junior Kanoa Kaleoaloha finished in seventh place, capturing All-America accolades at the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships.
