It’s Thursday, Florida State fans. Before you settle in to watch the Sweet 16, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

The first spring of the Willie Taggart era at Florida State got underway Wednesday and there seems to be a buzz in the air.

Perhaps most notable from Wednesday’s practice was that quarterback Deondre Francois, a redshirt junior, was in the lineup after suffering a season-ending patella tendon injury in last year’s opener against Alabama. Both Francois and sophomore James Blackman reportedly had good days throwing the ball.

The lone scare came with leading returning receiver Nyqwan Murray reportedly going down with an apparent leg injury. Details aren’t known at this time, but there seems to be reason for optimism.

Between the Lines

FSU men’s swimming and diving began the NCAA Championships on Wednesday. FSU baseball downed UCF, 13, to complete a 2-game sweep. FSU softball swept Troy in a doubleheader, winning 12-2 and 9-1.

On the Agenda

FSU swimming and diving continues the NCAA Championships in Minneapolis on Thursday. FSU men’s basketball takes on Gonzaga in the Sweet 16, beginning at 10:07 p.m. EST. The contest airs on TBS.

News and Notes

Florida State topped Gonzaga on Thursday night, 75-60, to reach the Elite Eight for the first time since 1993.
