The Daily Nole — March 21, 2018: James Invited to NFL Draft

Happy hump day, Florida State fans. As we near the weekend, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

According to a report from 247Sports, Florida State safety Derwin James will be in attendance when his name is called to take the next step in his football career.

James was among the players invited to the NFL Draft, which takes place in Arlington from April 26-28. James is currently projected to go in the top half of the first round.

Fresh off a knee injury that ended his 2016 season, James finished with 84 tackles, including 5.5 for loss to go along with team-highs of two interceptions and 11 pass break-ups as redshirt sophomore. James also scored a touchdown on an interception return in a win over Delaware State.

Between the Lines

FSU men’s golf finished the Valspar Collegiate Invitational in second place on Tuesday. The women took home fifth place at the Evans Derby Experience. FSU baseball defeated UCF at Dick Howser Stadium, 6-4.

On the Agenda

FSU wraps up a 2-game home series with UCF on Wednesday. The contest starts at 4 p.m. EST and airs on ACC Network Extra. FSU softball hosts a doubleheader with Troy. FSU men’s swimming and diving begins the NCAA Championships.

News and Notes

FSU softball’s Kylee Hanson was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.

Running back Ryan Green ran a 4.32-second time in the 40-yard dash at FSU Pro Day.

Spring football practice gets underway for FSU on Wednesday.

Gonzaga is listed as a 5.5-point favorite over FSU in the Sweet 16.

FSU baseball defeated UCF on Wednesday at Dick Howser Stadium, 13-3.
