The Daily Nole — March 19, 2018: FSU Women to Face Buffalo in Second Round

Lead Story

One night after Florida State’s men’s basketball team advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, the women will try to do likewise. The third-seeded Seminoles will be in Tallahassee on Monday night to take on No. 11 seed Buffalo.

Buffalo upset another set of Bulls on Saturday, downing sixth-seeded South Florida, 102-79. Cierra Dillard scored 36 points in the victory while Courtney Wilkins added 23 points. Dillard averages 15.6 points per game on the season to lead Buffalo while Cassie Oursler scores nearly 13 and grabs a team-high 6.7 rebounds.

Leading scorer Shakayla Thomas scored 26 points for Florida State on Saturday in a 91-49 win over 14th-seeded Arkansas-Little Rock. Four Seminoles scored in double-figures in the victory.

Monday’s contest begins at 6:30 p.m. EST and airs on ESPN2.

Between the Lines

FSU men’s tennis defeated Georgia Tech on Sunday, 5-2, while the women came up just short to top-ranked North Carolina, 4-3. FSU baseball defeated Notre Dame to take the rubber game of a 3-game set, 7-5.

FSU softball topped Virginia Tech to complete a 3-game sweep, 6-2. FSU men’s golf opened the Valspar Collegiate Invitational while the women began the Evans Derby Experience. FSU men’s basketball defeated top-seeded Xavier in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, 75-70.

On the Agenda

In addition to the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament, the FSU men’s and women’s golf teams will continue their respective tournaments on Monday.

News and Notes

FSU baseball moved up one spot to No. 5 in the Baseball America Poll. The Seminoles stayed put at No. 7 in the D1Baseball.com Poll. FSU fell five spots in the Collegiate Baseball Poll to No. 12. FSU held firm at No. 6 in the NCBWA Poll.

The ACC will announce players of the week for various sports on Monday.

The FSU women fell to Buffalo in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Monday night, 86-65.
