The Daily Nole — Feb. 24, 2018: FSU Softball Splits Two to Open Bama Bash

It’s the weekend, Florida State fans. As you get set to enjoy some leisure time, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State softball opened the Easton Bama Bash on Friday by going 1-1. After topping Northern Iowa, 9-0, the Seminoles fell to host Alabama, 3-0.

In the first game, pitchers Meghan King and Cassidy Davis combined for a 5-inning perfect game. Davis also drove in three runs at the plate and scored twice. Both she and Jessie Warren homered in the victory.

In the second game, the offense managed just three hits for FSU. Alexis Osorio struck out 10 for Alabama. Catcher Reagan Dykes was 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI for the Crimson Tide.

The Seminoles continue the Easton Bama Bash on Saturday with contests against Alabama and Georgia State.

Between the Lines

In addition to softball on Friday, FSU beach volleyball opened the season with a 5-0 win over Florida Atlantic and a 4-1 victory over South Carolina. Both FSU track and field and swimming and diving competed in the ACC Championships. FSU baseball defeated Troy, 7-3.

On the Agenda

In addition to the Easton Bama Bash, FSU track and field wraps up the ACC Championships on Saturday. FSU swimming and diving wraps up the ACC Championships as well. FSU baseball will take on Troy at 1 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra. FSU men’s tennis will take on New Orleans and Liberty. FSU beach volleyball takes on Georgia State and Stetson. FSU men’s golf opens the Seminole Intercollegiate.

News and Notes

Former FSU football quality control coach Jerry Johnson will join Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M.

FSU track and field won both the men’s and women’s title at the ACC Indoor Championships.

FSU baseball defeated Troy 6-5 on Saturday with a walk-off single from Drew Mendoza in the bottom of the ninth.

FSU men’s swimming and diving finished fifth at the ACC Championships. The women finished eighth last week.
