The Daily Nole — Feb. 1, 2018: Wright, Thomas Finalists for Awards

A pair of Florida State women’s basketball players have been named finalists for major awards.

Senior guard Imani Wright has been named one of 10 finalists for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, which goes to the nation’s top shooting guard. Senior forward Shakayla Thomas was named among 10 finalists for the Cheryl Miller Award, which goes to the nation’s top small forward.

Wright is the leading scorer for the Seminoles, averaging 18.2 points per game while twice breaking school-records this season for made 3-pointers in a game. The reigning ACC Player of the Year, Thomas is averaging 18 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting 51 percent from the field.

Senior guard A.J. Alix was previously named a finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award, which goes to the nation’s top point guard. All winners will be announced during the Final Four in Columbus on March 30.

Between the Lines

FSU men’s hoops fell at Wake Forest on Wednesday night, 76-72.

On the Agenda

FSU women’s hoops will be at N.C. State on Thursday night. The contest begins at 7 p.m. EST and airs on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

FSU’s spring game will take place at 6 p.m. EST on April 14, according to a release.

FSU men’s tennis is ranked 22nd, according to ITA.

FSU softball’s Jessie Warren and Meghan King were each named to the Top 50 Watch List for the 2018 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year.

FSU quarterback J.J. Cosentino has reportedly left the program and will be eligible to play elsewhere immediately. Offensive linemen Ethan Frith and David Robbins and defensive tackle Darvin Taylor are also leaving the program.
