The Daily Nole — Nov. 18, 2017: FSU Women Rout Florida, 84-54

It’s game day, Florida State fans. Before you settle in to watch the Seminoles take on Delaware State, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. We’ll update the news and notes section of this post throughout the day.

Lead Story

After Saturday’s football game, Florida State fans will start looking forward to next week’s match-up with rival Florida. The two rivals duked it out on the women’s hardwood on Friday night and it wasn’t close.

TCU transfer A.J. Alix poured in 26 points on 9-for-13 shooting and 6-for-10 from deep in her third game for FSU as the Seminoles blasted Florida, 84-54, for their largest win ever in Gainesville. Nicki Ekhomu added 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Seminoles while Shakayla Thomas added 12 points and Imani Wright 11.

Florida, who was led by Funda Nakkasoglu’s 18 points, scored the game’s first basket and led for 11 seconds and never again. The game was tied after the first quarter before the Seminoles pushed the lead to 12 at the break and to 27 after three quarters.

With the win, FSU remains perfect at 3-0 on the year. They’ll play a third straight road game on Sunday against Grambling.

Between the Lines

In addition to the FSU women, the FSU men blasted Fordham in the Jamaica Classic on Friday night, 67-43. The FSU swimming and diving teams continued to compete at the Georgia Tech Invite. FSU volleyball defeated Virginia Tech in four sets. FSU soccer defeated Arizona in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, 2-0.

On the Agenda

FSU swimming and diving will wrap up the Georgia Tech Invite on Saturday. FSU football will host Delaware State in a contest that airs on Raycom Sports Network at noon EST.

News and Notes

Former FSU and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston denies allegations that he groped a Uber driver in March 2016.

FSU soccer will face Stanford in the NCAA Tournament regional semifinal on Sunday. The Cardinal defeated Auburn on Friday night.
