It’s game day, Florida State fans. As you count down the hours until the big game, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

The quarterback prospect that Florida State has so desperately coveted is headed elsewhere.

Kennesaw product Justin Fields, the No. 1 player in the country for 2018, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, committed to Georgia on Friday morning. The Seminoles and Bulldogs were thought to be his top two schools, but Fields made the commitment the day before visiting FSU.

Where FSU looks now for a quarterback is anyone’s guess. The Seminoles have just four scholarship quarterbacks on the roster — no seniors — and none committed for 2018.

Between the Lines

FSU women’s tennis continued All-American Qualifying on Friday while the men took part in the Bedford Cup in Tallahassee and the All-American Main Draw in Tulsa. FSU volleyball fell to Pittsburgh in four sets. Both FSU men’s and women’s cross country teams took first place at the FSU Invitational.

On the Agenda

FSU women’s tennis continues All-American Qualifying on Saturday while the men continue the All-American Main Draw and Bedford Cup. FSU swimming and diving will host Minnesota. FSU football will host Miami in a contest that airs on ESPN at 3:30 p.m. EST.

News and Notes

FSU baseball will play Garnet and Gold games on Oct. 12 and Oct. 13. It will host the Ontario Blue Jays in an exhibition on Oct. 16.

Miami scored with six seconds left to break FSU’s 7-game winning streak in the series, 24-20.
