Staff Predictions for FSU-Miami

Few towns become more electric than Tallahassee when the Miami Hurricanes arrive for the annual rivalry match-up with the Florida State Seminoles. Whether it’s the history between the two schools, the relationships between the players, or the diehard nature of the fan bases, the FSU-Miami game remains one of college football’s great treasures.

The Daily Nole has kept you updated throughout the week in preparation for this game. Now, it’s time for us to tell you what we think is going to happen. Giving their thoughts today is editor Mike Ferguson, lead writer Clint Eiland, site manager Edwin Collins, staff writer Josh Mixon and recruiting analyst Jay Brading.

Mike: Playing at home against one of its most bitter rivals will bring out a fire in Florida State. Having Miami line up in front of it will have the FSU defense playing with more intensity and the offensive line couldn’t possibly play any worse than last week. That being said, Miami has looked much better than FSU this season and athletic quarterbacks like Malik Rosier have given FSU fits. As usual, this one is close. This one however, goes the other way. Canes 27, Noles 23.

Clint: It’s very hard to pick against the Seminoles when it comes to rivalry games. Head coach Jimbo Fisher has made part of his name on in-state dominance. Unfortunately, I think this year he sustains his first loss against the Hurricanes. The offense won’t be the train wreck it was last week, but a banged up offensive line and receiver group means the run game will have to dominate. I don’t think it can do that. The defense will be fine and probably hold Miami below 24 points. It won’t be enough however. 21-17, Hurricanes.

Edwin: I think FSU puts it all together finally. The Noles come out hot and surprise a Miami team that is not mentally ready for a revived Seminole team. FSU 41, Miami 10.

Josh: I’m torn on this one. While the Seminoles have more than enough talent to win this game, they’ve yet to show up fully prepared since Week 1. If FSU plays like it did against Wake Forest, Miami will run away with this one by halftime, but if the Noles play to their full potential, they have a good chance to win. Oh, and did I mention Miami’s defensive line is its strength? Ultimately, the better-coached team will win this game, which doesn’t bode well for the home side. Miami wins this one 28-17, with the result never really in doubt.

Jay: I can’t feel good about any prediction with this Florida State team. I could see a lot of different things happening on Saturday. I expect a better effort from FSU, but I have no idea whether or not that will actually happen. Give me Miami, 24-14.
