The Daily Nole — Sept. 23, 2017: FSU Volleyball Handles Virginia

It’s finally game day, Florida State fans. As you settle in to watch the Seminoles take on N.C. State, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Just days after getting pummeled by Florida, Florida State returned to its winning ways on Friday night in its ACC opener.

At home against Virginia, FSU won in four sets, 25-22, 25-21, 23-25, 25-14. Milica Kubura led the Seminoles with a match-high 20 kills while Cecilie Woie paced FSU with 12 digs. Kiley Banker finished with 14 kills to lead the Cavaliers.

With the win, FSU improves to 7-2 on the season. The Seminoles remain home to face Virginia Tech on Sunday.

Between the Lines

In addition to volleyball, the FSU men’s and women’s tennis teams began 3-day tournaments. The men were at the University of Alabama Tournament while the women were in Greenville, South Carolina for the Debbie Southern Fall Classic.

On the Agenda

Both the FSU men’s and women’s tennis teams will continue their respective tournaments on Saturday. FSU cross country will be in Gainesville for the Mountain Dew Invitational. FSU women’s golf begins the 3-day Schooner Fall Classic in Oklahoma. And of course, FSU football will host N.C. State at 12 p.m. EST on ABC.

News and Notes

James Blackman will become the first FSU true freshman to start at quarterback since 1985 on Saturday.

FSU was defeated by North Carolina State at home on Saturday, 27-21.
