It’s the weekend, Florida State fans. Unfortunately, many of us are preparing for Hurricane Irma instead of enjoying it with our families. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

With Saturday’s contest between Florida State and Louisiana-Monroe cancelled, it appears that FSU will play its home opener on Sept. 16 against Miami. But even that is not a given.

Miami defensive coordinator Manny Diaz took to Twitter to respond to Brett McMurphy about the Hurricanes’ scheduled contest against Arkansas State this weekend potentially being made up. In the tweet, Diaz said it may take a miracle just to play FSU next week in Tallahassee.

If Diaz is right, it wouldn’t be the first time that FSU and Miami had to postpone the rivalry contest. The 2004 opener in South Florida was pushed back from Labor Day to the following Friday. The teams could potentially make up the game during a shared bye week on Oct. 7.

Between the Lines

Friday’s FSU soccer contest at Florida and volleyball contest against Tennessee were each cancelled.

On the Agenda

FSU’s volleyball contest with Arizona has been cancelled. FSU golf will participate in the Don Glimmer Invitational in New York on Saturday.

News and Notes

FSU won’t pay a buyout to Louisiana-Monroe for cancelling Saturday’s contest.

FSU’s Sept. 16 contest with Miami has been pushed back to Oct. 14.
