Yes, it may be Monday, but that means it is one day closer to the start of football season for the Florida State Seminoles. It’s also the first day of classes for FSU students. Keep it here for updates on the latest in FSU athletics. News and notes will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

The Florida State Seminoles’ soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday afternoon. The Seminoles went up to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to play the Crimson Tide and found themselves on the wrong end of a 1-0 final score.

A physical first half witnessed Florida State fending off an aggressive Alabama team, who outshot the Seminoles 9-3 and committed 11 fouls. Despite the lopsided offensive numbers, the match was still knotted 0-0 after the first 45 minutes. Alabama broke the tie in the 55th minute with an excellent shot from the top of the box. The Seminoles were unable to respond with a goal of their own.

Florida State actually did outshoot Alabama overall. The Seminoles had 12 shots in the second half, while Alabama only had five. Ultimately it was still not enough to overcome a stalwart defense from the Crimson Tide. FSU goalkeeper Cassie Miller still managed to have a career-high eight saves.

The Seminoles drop to 3-1-0 on the season. They have a week to prepare for their next opponent on Sept. 3rd, the Kentucky Wildcats. That game will be played in Tallahassee at 1 p.m.

News and Notes

A projected starter for the Alabama football team was shot in the leg early Sunday morning while at a Tuscaloosa bar.
