Lead Story

After beating host Baylor on Friday night, Florida State volleyball wrapped up a perfect trip to Waco on Saturday with victories over Illinois State and UC-Santa Barbara, but the Seminoles did not make it easy.

In each case, FSU was down two sets to one, but found a way to rally in both contests. The day opened with the Seminoles beating Illinois State, 25-23, 28-30, 23-25, 26-24, 15-7. Senior Natasha Calkins led FSU with 22 kills while Bozena Culo finished with 11 kills and 12 digs. Illinois State’s Jaelyn Keene recorded a match-high 24 kills.

Against UC-Santa Barbara, it was more of the same as the Seminoles rallied for a 25-22, 25-27, 26-28, 25-18, 15-13 victory. Calkins again led FSU with 17 kills while Culo recorded another double-double. Lindsey Ruddins had a monster match for the Gauchos with a match-high 36 kills to go with 18 digs.

With a 3-0 record, Florida State will head home for the first time to begin the Tallahassee Invitational. That starts on Friday against UNC-Asheville.
