It’s Thursday, Florida State fans, which means we’re one day closer to the weekend. As it approaches, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics as we update the news and notes section throughout the day.

Lead Story

Another preseason All-American team and another honor for a pair of Florida State defensive backs.

Cornerback Tarvarus McFadden, a junior, and redshirt sophomore safety Derwin James were each named to the USA Today Preseason All-American team on Wednesday. Both were previously named All-Americans by other publications, including the Associated Press.

McFadden came on as a sophomore last season with a FBS-high eight interceptions, which was the second most for an FSU player in a single season. James has continued to get plenty of recognition despite playing in just two games last season after a do-everything freshman campaign in 2015.

Between the Lines

There were no FSU athletic events scheduled for Wednesday.

On the Agenda

FSU soccer will visit Samford at 8 p.m. EST on Thursday. The contest will stream on the SoCon Digital Network.

News and Notes

Former Florida State basketball center Michael Ojo has signed a contract to play professionally in Serbia.

Chief Osceola and Renegade won’t be making the trip to Atlanta for FSU’s opener against Alabama on Sept. 2.

Seven FSU defensive players were named to the Senior Bowl watch list. They include defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi, linebackers Jacob Pugh, Matthew Thomas and Ro’Derrick Hoskins and safeties Trey Marshall, Ermon Lane and Nate Andrews.
