The Daily Nole — Aug. 22, 2017: Burns, Sweat Named to Ted Hendricks Award Watch List

DeMarcus Walker may be gone, but there are a pair of Florida State players still considered to be among the best defensive ends in the country.

Junior Josh Sweat and sophomore Brian Burns were each named to the Ted Hendicks Award watch list, which annually goes to the nation’s top defensive end. No FSU player has ever won the award since its inception in 2002.

Sweat, who was once the top high school player in the country, finished with seven sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss last season. Burns led all true freshmen with 9.5 sacks a season ago. No. 3 FSU opens the season in Atlanta on Sept. 2 against top-ranked Alabama.

FSU athletic director Stan Wilcox said the school is in the early stages of having a football-only facility.
