The Daily Nole — Aug. 3, 2017: College Gameday Heading to Atlanta

It’s Thursday, Florida State fans. As the weekend approaches, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

College football’s most famous pregame show will follow Florida State to Atlanta to open the year.

ESPN announced that College Gameday will be on site at Mercedes Benz Stadium for the season opener between Florida State and Alabama. The Seminoles and Crimson Tide will play at 8 p.m. EST on Sept. 2.

College Gameday was on site last year for Florida State’s contest at Louisville, which was a contest FSU lost 63-20. The show first left the studio in 1993 for Florida State’s visit to Notre Dame in a contest dubbed, “The Game of the Century”.

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Thursday.

News and Notes

Florida State safety Derwin James was named to the No. 2 player in the country by 247Sports. Defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi came in at No. 37, cornerback Tarvarus McFadden is No. 42, defensive end Josh Sweat is No. 56 and quarterback Deondre Francois is No. 90.

FSU hoops players have been given jersey numbers.

FSU will begin the season ranked third in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

FSU soccer has been picked by the ACC’s coaches to win the conference.
