It’s the weekend, Florida State fans. As you get set to settle in and spend time with your family, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

According to a report from ACC Network’s Arriya Massoudi on Friday, six pitchers taken in the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft passed up the opportunity to go pro for the time being to play for Florida State next season. Three are returning while the other three are incoming.

The headliner of the three returning is ace Tyler Holton, a 35th round pick of the Miami Marlins, and an All-American last season. Holton was 10-3 last season with a 2.34 ERA and 144 strikeouts.

Also returning for FSU will be Andrew Karp, who went 2-3 with a 4.48 ERA and Cobi Johnson, who missed all of last season after undergoing Tommy John Surgery midseason the year before. Johnson was a 29th round pick of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim while Karp went in the 34th round to the Chicago Cubs.

In addition to the three returning, incoming freshmen C.J. Van Eyk, Shane Drohan and Austin Pollock will attend FSU. Van Eyk was selected by the New York Mets in the 19th round while Drohan went in the 23rd round to the Philadelphia Phillies and Pollock in the 40th and final round to the St. Louis Cardinals.
