The Daily Nole — July 7, 2017: FSU Athletics Operates at Loss for Academic Year

Happy Friday, Florida State fans. For those of you looking forward to the weekend, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

According to a report from the Tallahassee Democrat, Florida State’s athletic department operated at more than a $1.8 million loss this academic year.

FSU had the greatest revenue and expenses among ACC schools, per the report. The only two others in the top 25 nationally for either category were Clemson and Louisville, who were each profitable.

While FSU operated in the red, rival Florida’s athletic department saw a more than $20 million profit. Other in-state schools like Florida Atlantic and Florida International were each profitable while South Florida suffered a loss and UCF broke even.

Athlon Sports pits FSU against Ohio State in the Rose Bowl, a national semifinal, in its bowl projections.

Former FSU guard Dwayne Bacon has come to terms with the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets.

Arriya Masoudi reports that pitchers Tyler Holton, Andrew Karp and Cobi Johnson will all return to FSU next season. Incoming freshman pitchers C.J. Van Eyk, Shane Drohan, and Austin Pollock will also sign with FSU.

According to CBS Sports, FSU had the best year in college sports.
