Lead Story

With the season on the line Wednesday night, Florida State will give the ball to sophomore right-handed pitcher Cole Sands.

Sands will be pitching for the first time in 10 days as he takes the mound against LSU in a College World Series elimination game. Sands did work three shutout innings of relief in the Super Regional-clinching 19-0 win over Sam Houston State on June 11.

For the year, Sands is 6-3 with a 5.05 ERA, but like most FSU hurlers, has been solid since the start of the ACC Tournament. Since then, he has posted a 1.29 ERA in 14 innings. Jared Poche, who is 11-3 with a 3.33 ERA, will take the mound for LSU.

Poche picked up the win over FSU on Saturday night in a 5-4 LSU victory. The teams meet again on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. EST.
