The Daily Nole — June 12, 2017: FSU to Face LSU in CWS

It’s Monday, Florida State fans. It should be a quiet one, but we’ll give you the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

For the first time in five years, Florida State is headed to the College World Series and it now knows its opponent.

The Seminoles will face LSU in the opening round of the College World Series next weekend. While FSU was hammering Sam Houston State on Sunday night, LSU pounded Mississippi State, 14-4, in the Baton Rouge Super Regional.

Greg Deichmann leads LSU with 19 home runs and 72 RBIs this season while Cole Freeman leads the Tigers with a .327 batting average. LSU also has a very good trio of starting pitchers in Alex Lange, Jared Poche’ and Eric Walker.

A time and date have yet to be set for when the teams will meet in Omaha.

Between the Lines

Florida State blasted Sam Houston State, 19-0, to advance to the College World Series on Sunday night.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Monday.

News and Notes

In addition to LSU and Florida State, TCU and Cal State Fullerton also clinched trips to the College World Series.

FSU’s 19-0 victory over Sam Houston State on Sunday was the largest ever in a Super Regional game.

FSU and LSU will meet in the opening round of the College World Series at 8 p.m. EST on Saturday. The contest airs on ESPN.
