The Daily Nole — June 11, 2017: FSU Baseball Can Punch Ticket to Omaha

Happy Sunday, Florida State fans. As the weekend winds down, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State’s first trip to the College World Series in five years could be just hours away. The Seminoles moved within one victory of Omaha on Saturday with a thrilling 7-6 victory over Sam Houston State.

Jackson Lueck played the hero in Saturday’s game, delivering a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth in the first game of the Tallahassee Super Regional. FSU now has two chances to win one game to advance to Omaha. The Seminoles however, were in the same situation last season, but dropped the final two games to Florida in Gainesville.

Pitching for FSU on Sunday will be freshman left-hander Drew Parrish. Heath Donica, the ace for Sam Houston State, is expected to get the start for the Bearkats. The contest begins at noon EST on ESPN.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU’s walk-off baseball victory over Sam Houston State in the first game of the Tallahassee Super Regional, the FSU track and field team wrapped up the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

On the Agenda

FSU’s Super Regional contest with Sam Houston State is the only scheduled FSU athletic event.

News and Notes

Oregon State, Louisville and Texas A&M all advanced to the College World Series on Saturday.

FSU tight end Jeremy Kerr is no longer with the team, according to a report.

FSU baseball defeated Sam Houston State 19-0 on Sunday night to win the Tallahassee Super Regional and advance to the College World Series.
