The Daily Nole — May 20, 2017: FSU Women’s Golf Struggles on Day 1 of NCAA Championships

It’s the weekend, Florida State fans. Before you settle in to watch some big contests on the diamond, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

The first day of the NCAA Championships hardly went as planned for Florida State’s women’s golf team. After the first round of play, the Seminoles sit in a tie for 19th place with Duke at +37.

For Florida State to advance to match play, it will need to be one of the top eight teams after four rounds. The Seminoles are currently 11 strokes back of eighth-place North Carolina.

After one day of the event, Northwestern is in first place at +13. Individually, Purdue’s August Kim and Michigan’s Elodie Van Dievoet are tied for first at even par. The top FSU player is Kim Metraux who is tied for 44th at +7.

Florida State will compete in the second round on Saturday, hoping to fare much better.

UPDATE: Saturday’s women’s golf championships have been called by weather. FSU will have three rounds to get into the top eight.

Between the Lines

In addition to golf, FSU softball opened the NCAA Tournament with a 3-0 win over Princeton. FSU baseball defeated Louisville for a second night in a row, 8-2.

On the Agenda

Aside from golf, FSU softball will face Georgia in the Tallahassee Regional of the NCAA Tournament at noon EST in a contest that airs on ACC Network Extra. FSU baseball wraps up a 3-game series at Louisville at 7:30 p.m. EST on ESPNU.

The second round of the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships has been called by weather.

4-star receiver Warren Thompson said he will make his college decision after his last high school game.

Florida State softball defeated Georgia to move to within one win of the Super Regional round.

FSU baseball’s regular season finale at Louisville was canceled as a result of weather.
