The Daily Nole — April 17, 2017: FSU Beach Volleyball Earns Top Seed in Conference Tourney

Florida State’s beach volleyball team will be the top seed in the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Championship, which begins in Lakepoint, Georgia on Friday.

FSU is 21-7 this season after reaching the national championship duel a season ago. The conference tournament will be 10 teams, broken down into two pools with the top two finishers in each to head to the semifinals.

Joining top-seeded Florida State in Pool A will be fourth-seeded South Carolina, No. 5 seed Florida International, No. 8 seed Tulane and ninth-seeded UNC-Wilmington. In Pool B will be No. 2 seed LSU, third-seeded Georgia State, sixth-seeded Florida Atlantic, No. 7 seeded College of Charleston and No. 10 seed UAB.

Against teams in Pool A, FSU is 5-0 this season. The Seminoles open the tournament on Friday against UNC-Wilmington and Tulane.

Between the Lines

FSU women’s tennis fell at home to Clemson, 5-2. FSU baseball defeated Clemson, 7-3 on Sunday.

On the Agenda

FSU baseball wraps up a 3-game series against Clemson on Monday night at 7 p.m. EST. The contest will air on ESPNU.

News and Notes

Florida State baseball remains unranked in the Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball and D1Baseball.com Polls. FSU also dropped out of the NCBWA Poll.

Florida State rallied to defeat Clemson on Monday night, 7-6.

Samford will receive $500,000 to face FSU on Sept. 8, 2018 in Tallahassee.

Longtime FSU stadium announcer Nick Menacof has passed away, per reports.

Las Vegas Superbook has FSU listed at 7-to-1 to win the 2017 national championship.
