The Daily Nole — April 8, 2017: FSU Wraps Up Spring

It’s the weekend, Florida State fans and that means we’ve made it to the FSU annual spring game. Before you sit back, relax and enjoy, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

After taking place at Camping World Stadium last year, the Florida State spring football game returns to Tallahassee.

This year’s intrasquad scrimmage features seven early enrollees and the return of safety Derwin James. It should also give a glimpse of quarterback Deondre Francois’ progress since the end of last season.

Last year’s game ended in a 24-24 tie. The contest begins at 3 p.m. EST and will air on ESPN.

Between the Lines

FSU women’s golf defeated rival Florida in match play, 3-2. FSU beach volleyball collected 5-0 victories over TCU and Florida Atlantic. The men’s tennis team fell to Notre Dame, 4-2. FSU baseball scored 10 runs in the seventh to beat N.C. State, 16-7.

On the Agenda

In addition to spring football, FSU track and field will be in Jacksonville for the UNF Twilight. The FSU men’s golf team will be in North Carolina for the Irish Creek Intercollegiate. FSU beach volleyball hosts South Carolina. FSU softball will take on Syracuse at 4 p.m. EST while the baseball team resumes its series with N.C. State at 6:30 p.m. EST. Both contests air on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

Saturday’s 16 runs was the most for Florida State in an ACC game this season.

Spring game rosters have been unveiled. Derwin James, Matthew Thomas and Derrick Nnadi headline the Garnet. For the Gold, it’s Deondre Francois, Jacques Patrick and Brian Burns.

In the FSU spring game, the Gold defeated the Garnet, 17-7.

Grayson High School prospects, Kenyatta Watson and Wanya Morris each committed to Florida State on Saturday.

N.C. State held off a Florida State rally on Saturday night to even the series with a 4-3 win.
