The Daily Nole — April 7, 2017: Two Noles Win in Knoxville

Happy Friday, Florida State fans. We’re almost to the weekend and that means the FSU spring football game. We’ll do our best to help get you there. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Two Florida State track and field athletes claimed gold at the Tennessee Relays on Thursday. Another currently sits in first place.

Sophomore Veronika Kanuchova took first place in the hammer throw with a final round toss of 62.9 meters. That was more than two meters more than second place finisher Freya Block of Southern Illinois.

On the men’s side, Tyson Murray, a freshman, took gold in the 10,000-meter run. Murray finished in less than 30 minutes and 41 seconds. That was more than three seconds faster than Duke’s Stephen Garrett, who finished second.

Decathlete Dante Newberg, a sophomore, currently sits in first place. The Tennessee Relays will resume Friday. Beginning at 3 p.m. EST, events will be streamed on ESPN3.

Between the Lines

The Tennessee Relays were the only FSU athletic event held on Thursday.

On the Agenda

In addition to the Tennessee Relays, the FSU women’s golf team will take on Florida. FSU beach volleyball will host TCU. The men’s tennis team will host Notre Dame at 5:30 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra. FSU baseball will open a 3-game set at N.C. State, beginning at 6:30 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

FSU’s weekend rotation remains the same with Cole Sands, Tyler Holton and Drew Parrish set to pitch against N.C. State.

Florida State has landed 3-star defensive end Patrick Joyner. The Homestead product is the No. 925 overall player for 2018.

Former Florida State offensive lineman Wilson Bell will transfer to Auburn, according to reports.

Florida State took the series opener against North Carolina State on Friday night in Raleigh, 16-7.
