Lead Story

A second Elite Eight appearance in three years was enough to earn Florida State’s women’s basketball a top 10 finish in each of the two major polls.

FSU, who finished the year 28-7, will end the season 10th in the AP Poll and No. 7 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, which was released on Tuesday. The Seminoles won three games by double-digits in the NCAA Tournament to get to the Elite Eight where they were defeated by eventual national champion South Carolina.

Leading scorer Shakayla Thomas will return next season as will Chatrice White and Imani Wright. FSU however, will lose some key pieces, including guards Leticia Romero and Brittany Brown and forward Ivey Slaughter.

Between the Lines

Jackson Lueck’s ninth inning double lifted Florida State past Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday night, 7-6.

On the Agenda

The FSU track and field team will be in Athens, Georgia on Wednesday for the Bulldog Decathlon/Heptathlon. FSU baseball wraps up a 2-game set with Florida Gulf Coast at 4 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

Florida State’s victory on Tuesday night was its third last at-bat victory in its last five wins.

Will Zirzow will make his first career start against Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday.

FSU is currently a No. 2 seed in the Auburn Regional in Baseball America’s projected field of 64.

Rain called Wednesday’s game after five innings as FSU defeated Florida Gulf Coast, 3-2.
