It’s Tuesday, Florida State fans. Our mission here is the same as every day and that’s to keep you fresh on the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

After coming up on the wrong end of a buzzer beater last season, North Carolina has won its third national championship under Roy Williams. In a battle of No. 1 seeds on Monday night in Phoenix, the Tar Heels prevailed past Gonzaga, 71-65.

Joel Berry finished with 22 points and six assists to lead North Carolina while Nigel Williams-Goss had a nice all-around game for the Bulldogs. Williams-Goss finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and seven assists — all team-highs.

Gonzaga led 65-63 with less than two minutes to play, but the Tar Heels finished the game on an 8-0 run. A 3-point play from ACC Player of the Year Justin Jackson with 1:40 remaining put North Carolina ahead for good. Monday marked the first time since the 1990-91 academic year that the ACC claimed the national championship in both football and men’s basketball.
