Desperate for a win, Florida State found a way at Dick Hoswer Stadium on Tuesday. In the first of a 2-game set against Florida Gulf Coast, the Seminoles prevailed 7-6 on a walk-off double off the bat of Jackson Lueck that scored Taylor Walls in the ninth inning.

The much-needed victory ended a 4-game losing streak for the Seminoles. Three of FSU’s last five wins have now come in its last at-bat.

The Good: After losing four straight, just getting a win was a good thing for Florida State, but it did show a decent amount of resiliency. The Seminoles trailed 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth before getting a run to even the game and later winning it in the ninth. FSU also had 11 hits, including five for extra bases.

The Bad: After letting big and late leads slip away over the final two games against North Carolina, FSU got off to a fast start on Tuesday by taking a 3-0 lead into the fourth inning. Unfortunately, by the middle of the fifth, FSU had found itself behind. Though it was early, the Seminoles have had trouble putting teams away during this rough stretch.

The Ugly: The error and unearned run bug unfortunately bit Florida State again in the fourth inning. With runners on the corner and one out, FSU reliever Jim Voyles looked to be on the verge of getting out of the inning on a line drive that was caught by Taylor Walls. An ill-advised throw trying to double off the runner however got by first baseman Drew Medonza and allowed the FGCU run to score from third and give the Eagles a 4-3 lead. It was FSU’s ninth unearned run allowed in four games.

Studs of the Game: Game-winner included, Lueck was 3-for-5 at the plate for FSU with three RBIs and a run scored. Rhett Aplin was 2-for-4 with a run in the victory. For the Eagles, Julio Gonzalez was 3-for-4 with a triple and a run scored. Jake Smith was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs.

Duds of the Game: FSU’s J.C. Flowers had an 0-for-4 night at the dish with three strikeouts. FGCU outfielder Eli Lovell was also 0-for-4.
